Natural Range: Widespread throughout South America, Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, Brazil Paraguay, Venezuela

Source: Hobbyist Bred and Raised in USA

Estimated Size at Shipping: 1.75-2.25" give or take a bit

Overview: An uncommon fish in the hobby, we were able to source some hobbyist bred ones. They get their names from the long extensions on their tail fins. Even at a little over 2" the tail extension on the dominant male is around 3 inches. They also exhibit a very unique breeding behavior. After spawning, the male carries the eggs in his whiskers for up to two weeks before they hatch.

Setup Considerations: Providing adequate hiding places for them is very important to make them feel secure. Once they feel secure, they're surprisingly outgoing during the day.

Special Care Requirements: They highly prefer sand, as they will burrow into it covering most of their body.

Diet: Omnivore. These guys are grazers, so they need time with the food. If housed with aggressive eaters, night feeding is prefered. They're eating algae wafers, Massivore, and bloodworms for us.
